Left-Handed Kitchen Items
Some of the most useful left-handed items are kitchen tools. Left-handers realize the benefits of left-handed knives, left-handed can openers, left-handed peelers, left-handed pans, left-handed ladles and left-handed cutlery.
Left-handed knives have serrations on the right side of the blade whereas the right-handed knives have serrations on the left side. The serrations counteract the the natural twiting motion of the hand to give the slice a straight cut.
Right-handed can openers can be really awkward for a left-hander. On the other hand!, The left-handed can opener is held in the right hand and the knob is turned with the left hand. This is the prefered way for left-handers.
The left-handed peeler has blade positioned so that it can be held in the left hand and the peeling action is towards the body. In contrast, if a left-hader uses a right-handed peeler the peeling action is away from the body. Some of the peelers are double edged so that it can used effectivly with both hands.
Right-handed pans and ladles have lips on the left side which makes it hard for left-handers to pour. Left-handed pans and ladles have lips on the right side which makes all the difference. Some left-handed pans and ladles have lips on both sides.
Left-handed fork has a sharp edge on the right-side so that a left-hander can slice and scoop a piece in one action without turning the fork around.
