Left Handed Scissors

A left handed scissors is an essential item for a left hander. Even if you are perfectly comfortable using a right handed scissor, try a left handed one and you will notice the difference. For a left handed kid the difference is significant. Or if you are a right hander try using your scissors with your left hand - see that!

How to figure out wether a scissor is left handed or right handed. Lay the scissors flat on the desk. For right-hand scissors, the top part of the scissors will have the blade on the left side and the grip on the right side, whereas for left-hand scissors, the top part of the scissors will have the blade on the right side and the grip on the left side. Turning the scissors around or up-side down won't change this relationship.

Looking at the way the scissors are opened and closed by your left or right hand. When the right handed scissors are closed, the cutting edges close and are pressed together. If the cutting edges are pushed away from each other, the material being cut slides in between, and is not cut properly. This happens when a left hander uses a right-hand scissors or a right hander uses a left handed scissor. Try it out!

Since the left hand is a mirrored version of your right hand, the scissors should be `mirrored' as well. This is why the cutting edges are made on the opposite side of each part, and the parts are assembled just the opposite way, making a perfect left-handed scissors.
